 One of the most famous horror stories ever written, it was the first novel of a very young Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley.
 A scientist, Victor Frankenstein, learns how to give life to dead tissue and succeeds in creating a new being. Physically horrible, the monster is rejected by Frankenstein.
 The lack of love or simple acceptance, not only from people but also from his creator, turns an inwardly good being into a cruel and merciless murderer: the consequences will be tragical for many people.
 Stimulating activities, cues for reflections and interesting original inserts enrich the book.

 Una delle più famose storie horror mai scritte, fu il primo romanzo di una giovanissima Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. È la storia di uno scienziato, Frankenstein, che apprende come dare vita a tessuti morti riuscendo così a creare un mostro. Fisicamente orribile, viene rifiutato da Frankenstein. Il non sentirsi accettato non solo dagli esseri umani, ma anche dal suo creatore, trasforma un essere interiormente buono in un crudele e spietato assassino con conseguenze tragiche per molti.

Sometimes he could not continue his tale, at others he uttered words with difficulty. His tale sounds true, the monster we saw is real, yet I am lost in surprise and admiration. Sometimes I tried to gain from Frankenstein the particulars of the creation of the monster but on this point he was impenetrable. Our conversations are not always confined to his own history and misfortunes. He shows unbounded knowledge and a quick and piercing apprehension. His eloquence is touching. What a glorious creature must he have been in the days of his prosperity! Now his only comfort will be death. I have longed for a friend on these desert seas: I have found such a one, but I fear I have gained him only to know his value and lose him. September 2nd, 17  My Beloved Sister, I do not know whether I will see England again or not. I am surrounded by mountains of ice which allow no escape. What, Margaret, will be the state of your mind? You will anxiously await my return. Years will pass. Oh, my beloved sister, you have a husband and lovely children. You may be happy. Heaven bless you and make you so! My unfortunate guest regards me with the tenderest compassion. He reminds me how often the same accidents have happened to other navigators.
