In this beautiful night, with their hearts full of love, they talked for a long time, though they were aware23 of the danger of the place. Juliet innocently confessed her feelings for Romeo and received vows24 of deepest affection from him.
“Gentle Romeo, do not think that I am too easily won or that my behaviour25 is light, but trust me. You heard me confess my true love…” she said.
“No, no! my lady. I swear26 by the moon…” hastened27 Romeo to reply.
“Do not swear by the inconstant moon. Will your love prove as variable?” Juliet scolded28 him gently. “Do not swear tonight, dear Romeo. All this is too unexpected, too hasty…! But remember that my love is as deep, as infinite as the boundless29 sea.” she confessed once again.
“Then I’ll swear that my heart’s dear love…” Romeo started to say.
“If your intention is honourable and your purpose is marriage, send me word30 at nine tomorrow. I will place all my fortune at your feet and follow you wherever31 you go. A thousand times good night, my love!” were her parting32 words.
Romeo wished her good night, saying:
“O blessed, blessed33 night that gave your love to me! Parting from you is a thousand times the worse…”
Love goes toward love as school-boys from their books,
But love from love, toward school with heavy34 looks.
