STAGE PERFORMANCES

The most famous actors of all ages and countries have performed1 the play Romeo and Juliet starting from Richard Burbage (1567-1619), who created most of Shakespeare’s tragic roles.
David Garrick (1717-1779) was an acclaimed Romeo to Mrs Bellamy (1727-1789), who excelled in romantic and tragic parts, and was a very credible Juliet. As a manager and dramatist, Garrick was responsible for a production of Romeo and Juliet with a final scene in the tomb between the two lovers before they both die.
