Oliver Twist Oliver is not alone Chapter 7 Mr Bumble was now a married man and the manager of the workhouse. But his life was not happy because he always had problems with his wife and she treated him very badly. One evening he was sad after a violent discussion so he went out and entered a pub to drink something. A tall, dark man looked at him for a long time until Mr Bumble felt uncomfortable.  I ve seen you before  the man said.  I don t know you  answered Mr Bumble, a little frightened.  You worked in the workhouse, I know that. You should know something about a boy called Oliver Twist. He was born in the workhouse some years ago.  While he was talking, he pushed a few coins towards4 Mr Bumble. This was the second time somebody asked Mr Bumble about Oliver and he could make money out of it.  Yes. I remember that child very well and I know a person who can tell you more. She was with Oliver s nurse when she died. The nurse told her a secret.  Mr Bumble was thinking about Mrs Bumble, his wife. They arranged to meet the next day in a house by the river, then Mr Bumble asked the man his name.  Monks , he replied. The following day Mr and Mrs Bumble went to the meeting place. Monks was already there. Mr Bumble felt uneasy2 about meeting that man again; he was brave only when he had to do with poor people or children. He warned his wife to tell Monks only about Oliver and be quick to go away. Then Monks called them from an upstairs window. At that moment there was lightning and loud thunder and Monks jumped. Only Mrs Bumble was calm and she soon asked Monks how much he wanted to pay for the information.
