 Un manuale di ‘civiltà’ inglese di livello B1-B2 che si propone di mettere a fuoco, secondo un’ottica interculturale, gli aspetti più significativi dei paesi in cui la lingua inglese è parlata.
 
 I 12 Moduli e le relative 36 Unità in cui è suddiviso ESCAPES offrono una visione globale e globalizzata del mondo in cui l’inglese è parlato come L1 o L2 o come lingua veicolare, cogliendone gli aspetti reali, ma anche fornendo occasioni di "fuga dalla realtà" attraverso la letteratura e il cinema.
 
 Il testo è particolarmente innovativo e motivante in quanto ogni Modulo, nel trattare le diverse culture di lingua inglese sotto l’aspetto geografico, storico, sociale, letterario e artistico, fa sempre riferimento ad un film particolarmente significativo per l’argomento trattato. Inoltre, offre molteplici occasioni di rinforzo ed approfondimento grazie ai siti Internet citati punto per punto e al materiale autentico e aggiornato tratto da riviste, quotidiani e dalla “rete”.
 Le attività, infine, sono sempre mirate, oltre che a sviluppare le abilità ricettive e produttive, a stimolare l’attività di gruppo e di classe ed il confronto delle opinioni. Particolare attenzione è stata rivolta agli esercizi riguardanti i film.

His words and Al Pacino s contemporary interpretation portray a seriously offended man, a man who has the same rights other people have. Salerio: Why, I am (1)..............., if he forfeit, thou wilt not take his flesh: what s that good for? Shylock: To bait fish withal: if it will feed nothing else, it will feed my revenge. He hath disgraced me, and hindered me half a million, laughed at my (2)....................., mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine enemies; and what s his (3)........................? William Shakespeare Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564 and his father was probably a landowner. He studied at Stratford Grammar School and at the age of 18 he married Anne Hathaway, who was seven years older than him and bore him three children. We have no more information about him until 1592, when we find him in London. Between 1593 and 1594 he started to compose the Sonnets. Thanks to the Earl of Southampton s protection, he became an actor, a playwright and one of the partners first in the Globe Theater and then in the Blackfriars Theatre. In this period play-houses rose everywhere and many theatre companies were formed. They needed a playwright who could write plays at an incredible speed. Shakespeare in fact wrote for his company (the Chamberlain s Men, renamed the King s Men when Queen Elizabeth was succeeded by James I). His production consists of thirty-seven plays: comedies, such as A Midsummer Night s Dream, The Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night, Measure for Measure, historical dramas like Richard II, Richard III, Antony and Cleopatra and tragedies like Othello, Hamlet, King Lear. Year and place of his birth Studies Jobs in London Theatres where he acted Theatre companies Kind of plays Year and place of his death CURIOSITY CORNER THE GLOBE THEATRE Shakespeare s original Globe Theatre was built in about 1598 in London s Bankside district. It was one of the four major theatres in the area with the Swan, the Rose and the Hope. It was designed on the model of old inn-theatres: a wooden octagonal amphitheatre open to all weathers that could sit up to 3,000 spectators. It had three storeys and a diameter of about 100 feet. The rectangular stage was nearly 43 feet wide and 28 feet deep. It probably housed trap doors in its flooring and primitive rigging overhead for various stage effects. At the base of the stage there was a yard called pit where people (the  groundlings ) would stand to watch the performance. Around the pit were three levels of seating which were more expensive than standing. Being very near the actors, the audience was personally involved in the play. The Globe Theatre has been recently rebuilt in the same area. It is a faithful reproduction of the Elizabethan one and you can visit it at: www.shakespeares-globe.org
