L’argomento.
 New Mechways è rivolto agli studenti dei Nuovi Istituti
 – Tecnici ad indirizzo Meccanica, Meccatronica ed Energia e le sue omonime aree opzionali.
 – Professionali ad indirizzo Industria ed Artigianato. In generale, a coloro che hanno l’esigenza di utilizzare la lingua inglese come strumento di studio e/o lavoro in campo meccanico.
 I contenuti sono stati ordinati secondo criteri di graduale complessità concettuale e linguistica e vengono esplorati utilizzando le quattro abilità in modo omogeneo ed integrato. 
 
 La struttura.
 New Mechways è diviso in sette Moduli, ognuno dei quali è ripartito in tre sezioni:
 
 1. Contents Section – Divisa in Unità, contiene testi e attività che riguardano i contenuti specifici della specializzazione già affrontati in L1. Ogni Unità è suddivisa in brevi Capitoli per favorire non solo uno studio più parcellizzato, ma anche la scelta antologica da parte dell’insegnante. Brevi “box” di approfondimento, denominati Moving Deeper, permettono di ampliare le conoscenze sull’argomento. Un ricco apparato iconografico correda i brani di lettura, per ognuno dei quali è previsto un esauriente glossario.
 2. Revision and Practice – Presenta le seguenti ripartizioni:
 <ul><li>Vocabulary. Comprende specifiche attività per il conseguimento del lessico tecnico più importante del Modulo.
</li><li>Grammar. Propone il rinforzo delle strutture morfo-sintattiche più ricorrenti nel linguaggio settoriale.
</li><li>Communication. Offre testi e attività di consolidamento dei contenuti appresi per sviluppare le quattro abilità linguistiche.
</li></ul>3. Language Immersion – È volta al potenziamento della lingua tramite materie in inglese e certificazione linguistica.
 <ul><li>CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). Alla fine di ogni Modulo è presente un CLIL CORNER che si collega alle tematiche presentate in alcune delle discipline curriculari : Matematica, Letteratura, Tecnologie meccaniche di processo e prodotto, Meccanica, macchine ed energia, Disegno, progettazione e organizzazione industriale / impianti energetici. Gli argomenti proposti possono favorire una didattica cross-curricolare, coinvolgendo docenti delle materie citate.</li><li>IELTS (International English Language Test System). Il test valuta in modo accurato la capacità di comunicare in inglese considerando situazioni che si verificano nella vita reale e professionale.</li></ul>

module 2 THE PASSIVE   Remember that the passive, which is very common in ESP (English for Specific Purposes), is formed with the different tenses of to be and the past participle of the main verb. Bill Gates Microsoft founded was founded Microsoft by Bill Gates GRAMMAR The object of the active verb becomes the subject in the passive sentence. The verb becomes passive and the tense is determined by the verb to be. The subject becomes the  doer , it is preceded by the preposition by and it is omitted if it is not necessary to the comprehension. TENSES ACTIVE FORM PASSIVE FORM Simple present They buy computers every year Computers are bought every year Present continuous They are buying a computer A computer is being bought Past simple He bought a computer yesterday A computer was bought yesterday Present perfect They have bought some computers Some computers have been bought Past continuous She was buying a computer A computer was being bought Past perfect He had bought a computer A computer had been bought Will future They will buy some computers Some computers will be bought Be going to Tom is going to buy a computer A computer is going to be bought by Tom Modal verbs They should buy some computers Some computers should be bought Infinitive They used to buy computers Computers used to be bought   The passive form can be made using the indirect object of the active sentence as the new subject of the passive sentence (with verbs that can have two objects). My parents gave me a CD I was given a CD by my parents. A CD was given to me by my parents (less common form). They require sophisticated car alarms nowadays. The computer is processing data. You should save files on the hard disk. 

revision and practice COMPOUND NOUNS (NOMINAL COMPOUNDS)   Remember that Compound Nouns are used to synthesize a group of nouns and/or adjectives and/or verbs which act as qualifiers. They are very common in ESP. To understand and interpret these expressions, you have to read them backwards, that is from the right (the head noun, the last term in the nominal group) to the left. e.g.: alternative power plants; mechanically driven devices.   These nominal compounds are often in the form of acronyms. e.g.: ISDN: Integrated Services Digital Network MOSFET: metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor   Points to note: 1. If in the nominal group two words are joined with a hyphen, these two words are linked to each other and not with the other words. e.g.: A clock-like object (An object similar to a clock). 2. If within the nominal group a noun acts as an adjective, this noun does not generally have the plural form. e.g.: A twenty-year-old technician.
