Learning is a lifelong process, so while it may start at your secondary school in your homeland, it doesn t end there. The Europe Union provides many opportunities to learn abroad, starting now at school and looking ahead to your future! If you are a European citizen, it is your right to study and work in another country in Europe and you will be treated equally in terms of employment rights. As far as education is concerned, each EU programme, usually named after a famous person (e.g. Erasmus, Comenius), offers a different experience, so you can easily find the one best suited to your interests. And where to begin your job search when you finish your studies? EU can help you again. Here is some information about programmes and services. Comenius This programme is named after the 17th century Czech educator John Amos Comenius, who believed that a proper education was the only means to develop people s minds and improve their abilities. Students in primary and secondary schools can take part in this programme. Its aim is to help young people and teachers, to better understand the range of European cultures, languages and values which exist. If your school participates in a project, you will be able to visit a partner school, with a group of students or by yourself, attending lessons and staying with a host family; or you will welcome foreign pupils to your school. Such an experience will improve your capacity to cooperate and work in a group using a foreign language. Youth for europe Youth for Europe is part of the Youth in Action Programme and enables young people between 13 and 30 to go on an exchange inside Europe. The project brings together groups of young people from two or more countries, giving them the opportunity to discuss and confront various themes (music, mass media, environment, etc.) while learning about each other s countries. If you apply for one of the proposed projects and are accepted, you will spend from six to twenty-one days in a European country, and have a personal tutor and the opportunity to take part in different sports or art activities. You will only have to pay for 30% of the travel expenses. 54
