Elizabeth I was the Queen of England and Ireland from 1558 until 1603. She was the daughter of King Henry VIII of England and Anne Boleyn, his second wife, and was the last of the Tudor dynasty of monarchs.
 In the early years, Elizabeth’s life was a troubled one. She then ruled with intelligence and hard work and her reign was distinguished by great achievements in the arts, trade, and exploration.

The Queen A RoyalInvincible Teenager s Troubled Years Chapter 2 Scandal at court After her father s death in 1574 and the ascent to the throne of her brother Edward at the age of nine, Elizabeth faced a series of crises. In dealing with each one, she demonstrated courage and political skill1. The first crisis involved Catherine s new husband, Thomas Seymour, the Lord Admiral. He was immediately attracted to the beautiful princess. At first, Elizabeth welcomed his attention. After a time, however, his behaviour alarmed Catherine. To prevent the situation from getting totally out of control, Catherine sent Elizabeth away. After Catherine Parr died in childbirth, the ambitious Seymour planned to marry Elizabeth. As a result of these and other attempts at gaining power, Seymour was executed. His behaviour had placed Elizabeth in danger but she skilfully resolved the problem herself. She was questioned but she admitted nothing and asserted2 her innocence. Her encounter with Seymour taught her a painful3 lesson. She learnt that her actions had consequences. She also learnt that she was under continuous observation. She decided to withdraw4 from public life. She also acted to change her image. Her dress became more modest and she avoided makeup.
