The following week, the Time Traveller is half an hour late for his Thursday dinner. The guests are surprised at his untidy appearance, so he tells them his story. Now even the Time Traveller is afraid of the Morlocks. In search of a shelter and weapons to use against them, he visits an old, ruined museum with Weena. He comes out with a bar, a box of matches and some camphor. During the night, the Morlocks attack. Weena shows gratitude and follows him everywhere. Later, the time machine gets stolen and the Time Traveller understands that it has been drawn into the pedestal of a marble Sphinx. But who has done it? Next, he realizes that the Morlocks do take care of the Eloi, but they also eat them: their relationship is that of ranchers and cattle. The Time Traveller also learns that the Morlocks are sensitive to light and afraid of fire. No one believes the Time Traveller s story, except the narrator, who goes to talk to him the next day. The Time Traveller says he will be back with proof, goes into his lab and disappears. He never comes back. To keep the Morlocks away, the Time Traveller lights a fire, which gets out of control. The day after the devastating fire, he finds the doors of the White Sphinx open and sees his time machine in perfect condition inside it. But it s a trap, he is immediately assaulted by the Morlocks; however, eventually he manages to climb onto his device and rush away. 11 The Time Traveller has gone far into the future to the year 802,701 with a machine which travels in time that he invented. He travels even farther into the future, when almost all life has died out. He feels sick and sad, so he returns home. Not the Eloi, owing to their physical and intellectual inadequacy.Then, he discovers that there are people who live underground. He goes to the Under World and meets the creepy Morlocks.
