CHALLENGES è un corso di lingua inglese per il triennio della scuola secondaria superiore che si distingue per chiarezza di impostazione e approccio metodologico rigoroso con focus su abilità e competenze. Il testo rappresenta la soluzione ideale per coniugare l'approfondimento della lingua accanto allo studio della letteratura o della micro-lingua di settore.
 
 CHALLENGES punta ad aiutare gli studenti il cui inglese è al livello B1 del CEFR, passando attraverso il livello B1+, a raggiungere il livello B2 secondo quanto richiesto dalle Linee Guida del MIUR dell’ultimo anno.
 
 L’intento di CHALLENGES è quello di insegnare abilità e microabilità che vanno oltre la semplice pratica e verifica delle competenze linguistiche, consentendo agli studenti di padroneggiare le più comuni tipologie di attività richieste dalle certificazioni e dalle nuove sfide poste dalla società.
 
 Ecco perché il testo è stato ideato tenendo conto di: <ul><li>l’ultima versione del CEFR, che ha introdotto nuove abilità linguistiche come la comprensione di video e che ha dato nuova importanza alla mediazione (traduzione interlinguistica);
</li><li>le Competenze Chiave per l’Apprendimento Permanente, altrimenti dette Competenze Chiave del XXI secolo, raccomandate dal Consiglio dell’Unione Europea (2018);
</li><li>il nuovo syllabus del Cambridge B1 Preliminary (2020);
</li><li>i più recenti sillabi del Cambridge First e IELTS.
</li></ul>Struttura del testo
 Il libro è organizzato in 12 Unità concepite in modo da essere utilizzate sequenzialmente: <ul><li>Unità 1-4 (livello B1) ➞ terzo anno
</li><li>Unità 5-8 (livello B1+)➞ quarto anno
</li><li>Unità 9-12 (livello B2) ➞ quinto anno.
</li></ul>Ogni Unità è composta da 8 sezioni, per un totale di 32 sezioni all’anno.
 Poiché ogni sezione è stata pensata perché possa essere svolta nella durata di un’ora, ogni livello copre un intero anno scolastico se utilizzato un’ora alla settimana.
 
 Ogni Unità tratta di una diversa tematica di interesse sia personale che sociale che è stata scelta nell’ottica di stimolare la riflessione su questioni contemporanee in vista della prova orale dell’Esame di Stato.
