CLIP FILM X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE : USA 2009 – Marvel Entertainment PRODUCTION : Gavin Hood DIRECTOR : Hugh Jackman (Logan), Liev Schreiber (Victor), Danny Huston (Stryker), Lynn Collins (Kayla) STARRING : by Roy Thomas, Len Wein, John Romita, Sr. BASED ON Wolverine SYNOPSIS is a prequel to all prior entries in the film series. Two mutant brothers, Logan and Victor, born 200 years ago, suffer childhood trauma and have only each other to depend on. Basically, they are fighters and killers, living from war to war through U.S. history thanks to their healing factor which gives them near-immortality. In modern times, a U.S. colonel, Stryker, recruits them into a squadron of mutant soldiers who perform morally reprehensible tasks for the American government. Logan leaves in disgust after a massacre of innocents while Victor, who enjoys his job so much, remains with Stryker. Logan becomes a logger and falls in love with Kayla, a local teacher. When Logan refuses to rejoin Stryker’s crew, the colonel sends the murderous Victor to kill Kayla. After finding her bloodied body in the woods, Logan realises Victor is responsible for her death. Stryker explains that Victor has gone rogue, and offers Logan a way to become strong enough to get his revenge. Logan undergoes a painful operation to reinforce his skeleton with adamantium, a virtually indestructible metal. Once the procedure is complete, Stryker attempts to betray Logan by ordering his memory to be erased so he can be used as Stryker’s personal weapon, but Logan overhears this and escapes to a nearby farm, where an elderly couple takes him in. One of the other mutants kills them the following morning and tries to kill Logan, but Logan runs away and swears to kill both Stryker and Victor.
