People OLGA KORBUT Olga Korbut (1955- ) was a Soviet gymnast who won three gold medals at the age of 17 in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. She is considered the one who redefined modern gymnastics, changing the sport from ballet and elegance to acrobatics. She retired from international competition at the age of 22. Olga Korbut is famous for her dead loop performed on the uneven bars at the Olympic Games in 1972. In this spectacular vault, the gymnast, standing on the high bar, performs a back flip and grasps the bar again. Korbut s flip was the first backward release move performed on the uneven bars in an international competition, but it was soon banned because it was considered too dangerous, especially for the standing position on the high bar before the flip. USAIN BOLT Usain Bolt (1986- ) is a Jamaican sprinter who won gold medals in the 100-meter and 200-metre races in three consecutive Olympic Games (2008, 2012, and 2016). He is considered the greatest sprinter of all times. Bolt first broke the 100-metre world record when he set a time of 9.72 in May 2008 in IAAF World Athletics Tour meeting in New York, before smashing his own record two months later as he won the Olympic gold at Beijing 2008 in a time of 9.69. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Bolt became the first man since American Carl Lewis in 1984 to win the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4 100-metre relay in a single Olympics and the first ever to set world records (9.69 sec, 19.30 sec, and 37.10 sec, respectively) in all three events. In August 2009, at the World Championships in Berlin, Germany, Bolt ran the 100 metres in 9.58, setting a new world record. He retired from athletics after the 2017 world championships. KOSEI INOUE Kosei Inoue (1978- ) is a Japanese judoka considered as one of the greatest of all times. He remained an unbeaten heavyweight from 1999 to 2003, winning three World titles and an Olympic gold medal. Inoue s first international success came in 1999 at the Birmingham World Championship. It was here that he beat all opponents and got the gold medal. He won every match at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, added more gold medals to his collection at the following two World Championships, and secured three consecutive titles in the open weight category at the All-Japan Championships.
