 Images &amp; Messages è un corso di inglese specialistico per gli studenti dei corsi con indirizzo Grafica e Design, Comunicazione visiva e pubblicitaria, Multimedia e produzioni audiovisive, Servizi culturali e dello spettacolo.
 
 I contenuti sono ordinati secondo criteri di graduale complessità concettuale e linguistica e vengono esplorati utilizzando le quattro abilità in modo omogeneo e integrato.
 I brani offrono un assortimento di stili, registri e livelli di difficoltà, e sono tratti da fonti diverse ed autentiche: libri e manuali, riviste e quotidiani online e siti web, anche specialistici.
 
 Il testo si propone di:
 
 <ul><li>far acquisire le competenze necessarie per comprendere testi che presentano termini, espressioni, strutture sintattiche e modalità discorsive specifiche del linguaggio settoriale;
</li><li>migliorare le capacità di ricezione e produzione orale e scritta, anche tramite attività tipo Preliminary, FCE e IELTS;
</li><li>consolidare abitudini grammaticali corrette;
</li><li>incoraggiare l'autonomia linguistica e la soluzione di problemi;
</li><li>stimolare l'interesse e la partecipazione attiva degli studenti, dando spazio alla loro esperienza personale e a problematiche di attualità.
</li></ul>La struttura
 
 Images &amp; Messages è diviso in sette Moduli, ognuno dei quali ripartito in un numero variabile di Unità.
 Ogni Unità è suddivisa in brevi Capitoli su due pagine – teoria ed esercizi – per favorire sia uno studio più parcellizzato, sia la scelta antologica da parte dell'insegnante.
 Brevi link (curiosità, ampliamenti, rimandi, attività o mini-approfondimenti) arricchiscono i brani per consentire una maggiore interattività. Un ricco apparato iconografico correda i brani di lettura, per ognuno dei quali è previsto un esauriente glossario.
 
 Ogni Unità si conclude con due sezioni:
 
 Civic education: tematiche legate all'educazione civica e alla cittadinanza;
 Real-life skills: compiti di realtà e collaborativi, lavori di gruppo con un taglio di tipo pratico calato nella realtà.
 Alla fine di ogni Modulo, il testo propone ulteriori attività:

Visual Storytelling and Civic Education Visual storytelling plays a pivotal role in civic education by transforming complex societal and political issues into accessible, engaging narratives that vibrate with diverse audiences. By harnessing the power of images, symbols, and multimedia, educators can cultivate a more informed, empathetic, and active citizenry, foster a deeper understanding of civic responsibilities and inspire active participation.   Photovoice is a participatory research method that empowers individuals to capture photographs reflecting their community s strengths and challenges. This approach facilitates critical dialogue, enabling participants to share their perspectives and advocate for change. Originating in 1992, Photovoice has been utilised across various demographics to address issues such as healthcare access and social disparities. 10   GROUP WORK Split up into groups and use the photovoice technique to voice positive and negative aspects of your school.   Split up your class into groups.   Decide on timeline and roles.   Take photographs.   Share and discuss the photographs as a group.   Write captions for the photographs.   Set up a presentation. REAL-LIFE SKILLS 11     GROUP WORK Read the text and follow the instructions for the project. A New Face for Our School   Create an effective and appealing internal orientation system, keeping in mind the following objectives: improving orientation within the school building;   enhancing the school s identity through distinctive graphic design. Step 1 Split up into groups. Step 2 Carry out the following three phases of the project.   Space analysis and needs assessment    Carry out a detailed inspection of the school, identifying critical points and areas in need of signposting.    Collect feedback from students, teachers, and school staff on existing orientation problems.      Create a schematic map of the building, highlighting the different areas (classrooms, laboratories, offices, etc.). Extra steps: carry out the following steps, if possible. Brainstorming and concept design   Step 3    Digitise the schematic map of the school, using vector graphics software.    Organise brainstorming sessions to generate ideas on  street  and classroom names, inspired by themes related to local knowledge, culture, or history.    Insert the names of  streets  and classrooms, icons and designed graphics.    Develop graphic concepts for signage, defining a consistent visual style (fonts, colours, icons).    Create preliminary sketches for the school map and signage.      Create different versions of the map (paper, digital, interactive).   Typographic design Production of signs     Select durable materials suitable for the school environment for the production of signs.    Select clear and legible fonts for signage, taking into account different reading distances.    Define a typographic hierarchy to highlight the most important information. Implementation of the map     Print the signage in different formats as required.     Install signage at strategic points in the school.   Organise an exhibition to present the project to the school community.    Choose a pleasant and distinctive colour palette that reflects the school s identity.   Collect feedback on the map and signage, making any changes.    Create eye-catching graphics for the map and signage using illustrations, photographs, or patterns.
