The Pulitzer The Pulitzer Prize was established in 1917 in memory of and by the will of the journalist and publisher Joseph Pulitzer, founder of the newspaper New York World. Then, in 1942, the Prize was extended to the work of professional photographers who had distinguished themselves through their ability to capture important moments in contemporary history.
