E X T E N S I O N THE WARS OF THE ROSES (PART 2) In December 1460, Lancastrians killed Richard. In 1461, Richard s son Edward became King Edward IV. Edward IV fought the Lancastrians at Towton. The Yorkists won and Henry, his wife Margaret of Anjou and their son had to ee1 to Scotland. Then, the Yorkists began to fight among themselves. In 1470, Edward IV s brother George went to France and made friends with Margaret of Anjou, Henry VI s wife. They returned to England and put Henry VI back on the throne. Edward had to ee to the Netherlands. However, in 1471, he defeated2 the queen and king and killed their son. Edward IV became king once again until his death in 1483. After Edward s death, his brother Richard III wanted the throne. He said that Edward s son, Edward V, could not be the king of England. Edward V s supporters asked Henry Tudor, a Lancaster, to help them. Henry and his forces defeated and killed Richard III at Bosworth Field in 1485. This battle ended the Wars of the Roses. A few months later, Henry Tudor was crowned3 Henry VII. He united4 the York and Lancaster Houses by marrying Edward IV s daughter Elizabeth of York in 1486. This began the reign of the House of Tudor. It was during these dif cult times that Sir Daniel Brackley made his evil, secret plans against many people and the two Houses. 1. flee: to leave a place very quickly because you are afraid of possible danger. 2. defeat: to win against somebody in a war, competition, sports game, etc. 3. crown: to make somebody king or queen. 4. unite: to join together different people to become one group. Henry VII, with the red rose of Lancaster, and Elizabeth of York, with the white rose of York.
