The biography of Elizabeth I, Queen of England from 1558 to 1603. She was the daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn. From an early age she was psychologically marked by her father’s wish to have a son, heir to the throne.
 Under her reign England enjoyed a period of great splendour: it established itself as a naval power, laying the foundations of the future British Empire, it developed trade and economy and lived an age which, for its art and culture, was defined the Golden Century with authors such as Edmund Spenser, Ben Johnson, Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare.

 Sotto di lei l’Inghilterra conobbe un momento di grande splendore: si affermò come potenza navale, gettando le fondamenta del futuro impero britannico, sviluppò l’economia e i commerci e visse quello che per l’arte e la cultura fu definito il Secolo d’Oro, con autori come Edmund Spenser, Ben Johnson, Christopher Marlowe e William Shakespeare.

Elizabeth Regina Bess  Troubled Teens O Chapter 2 u m One year after her father s death in 1547, Elizabeth confronted her first major crisis and, though only fourteen, revealed the political skills she already possessed. By the force of her courage, she was able to rescue herself from mortal danger. Thomas Seymour (artist unknown, 16th c.). Scandal at Court Following the death of Henry, his widow, Catherine Parr, secretly married an old flame1, Thomas Seymour. As his name suggests, he was the brother of another of Henry s wives. Elizabeth quickly attracted the interest of this charismatic2 and very ambitious thirty-eight year old man. Despite3 warnings from her sister, Elizabeth became involved with him. He even dared to visit the bedroom of the attractive and curious adolescent princess. She was more interesting than his muchmarried4 wife. According to Elizabeth s governess:  If she were up, he would bid5 her good morrow and ask her how she did, and strike her upon the back or the buttocks6 familiarly. One morning he tried to kiss her while she was in bed, I was there and bade7 him go away for shame.  Catherine, blind to the meaning of the behaviour of her husband with Elizabeth, once joined him in holding Elizabeth down while he cut her gown in strips. In time, Elizabeth became more cautious and dressed before Seymour entered her bedroom. Catherine, finally aware of the implications of her husband s behaviour, sent Elizabeth away.
