 A young solicitor goes to Transylvania to sell a house in London to Count Dracula. It is the beginning of troubles, both for himself and his dear ones. A group of friends, however, led by Prof. Van Helsing - an expert in occultism and magic arts - engage in a fight to the death to defeat the terrible vampire.
 Dracula (1897) can be considered the last of the great gothic novels in which Bram Stoker revives the myth of the vampire and creates a novel with gloomy and sinister atmospheres, where fear, terror and horror are the prevailing feelings.
 Stimulating inserts about the origins of Dracula, bats, Transylvania, theatre and cinema performances on the subject enrich the book.

When religion came to the Slavs, stories about vampires did not stop. But people believed that some religious things, like holy bread and the cross, could also protect them from vampires. There was only one way to kill a vampire and to save the soul of the dead person: that, they believed, was a thick, sharp piece of wood through the heart. The very first appearance of Count Dracula is in Bram Stoker s Dracula (1897), but Stoker did not invent up the name  Dracula . There was a Dracula in the 15th century: Vlad the Impaler. Stoker didn t know much about him. He was simply looking for some information about vampire beliefs in Transylvania, when he came across his name in a book he was reading entitled An Account of the Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia (1820). This book has a very short section on a  Voivode Dracula  who fought against the Turks. What attracted Stoker to the name Dracula was a footnote4, which stated that  Dracula in the Wallachian language means devil . Not quite accurate, but that is what Stoker saw and copied into his notes. He was originally going to call his vampire  Count Wampyr , but changed it into  Count Dracula . This change is clearly made in Stoker s own notes for Dracula, which are located5 at the Rosenbach Museum in Philadelphia. The real Dracula was neither a count, nor a vampire (or even associated with vampires). The two Draculas (that is, the literary and the one who existed) have become greatly confused in many people s minds.
