E X T E N S I O N FAMOUS BRITISH SHIPS DISCOVERY. The Discovery was a 20-ton1 boat of the British East India Company sailing at the beginning of the 17th century. It was the smallest of three ships that were led by Captain Christopher Newport on the voyage to the colony of Virginia in 1607. When Captain Newport returned to England, he left the Discovery for the use of the colonists. During the 1610-1611 expedition to the Canadian Arctic, the crew of the Discovery mutinied2. Their captain, Henry Hudson, was left in a small boat and the crew returned to England. MAYFLOWER. The Mayflower was the ship that transported the English Separatists (better known as the Pilgrim Fathers) from Plymouth in England to Plymouth in Massachusetts (US) in 1620.. There were 102 passengers and a crew of 25-30. The ship left England on September 6, 1620. After a 66day journey, it arrived at Cape Cod on November 11 of the same year. The Mayflower has a famous place in American history as a symbol of early European colonization of the future US.
