 Lemuel Gulliver recounts his travels to exotic lands: Lilliput, where he meets tiny beings; Brobdingnag, the country of the giants; Laputa, the flying island inhabited by scientists and philosophers; finally, he describes his encounter with rational horses, the Houyhnhnms, wise beings who live together with savages, the Yahoos, similar to men.

Gulliver s Travels Brobdingnag T Chapter 3 Two months after my return to England, I left my country again. I took a job on the ship Adventure, which sailed to India on 20th June 1702. Our journey was good until we arrived at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, where we landed1 for fresh water2. Unfortunately, we had to spend the winter there because the ship needed repair and the captain was ill. We left at the end of March and had a good voyage up to the Straits of Madagascar. But then the winds blew with great violence and on 19th April our ship went East of the Molucca Islands. After a couple of weeks a southern wind, called the monsoon, started to blow and we got lost3. Nobody on the ship knew in which part of the world we were! On 16th June 1703, a boy saw land. It was a great island and we decided to go there to get fresh water. We were happy to be on land again! The sailors looked for a river or a lake and I walked away from the beach for about one kilometre. When I walked back to the boat, I saw that the sailors were going back to their ship very fast. I wanted to call them, but suddenly I noticed a very big creature walking after them into the sea! I was frightened and ran away. I reached some cornfields where I saw something strange. Everything was very big: the grass was about seven metres high and the corn more than thirteen metres high! Then I saw another giant coming towards me! He was as tall as a mountain. He was dressed like a farmer4. He spoke and other giants arrived. I was afraid that they could see me, so I hid5 in the grass. Then they began to cut the corn where I was hiding. I was scared and I cried. The first giant heard my cries and stopped cutting the grass.
