 Lemuel Gulliver recounts his travels to exotic lands: Lilliput, where he meets tiny beings; Brobdingnag, the country of the giants; Laputa, the flying island inhabited by scientists and philosophers; finally, he describes his encounter with rational horses, the Houyhnhnms, wise beings who live together with savages, the Yahoos, similar to men.

Gulliver s The land of Travels horses A Chapter 6 At last I was back home with my wife and children. I was happy, and decided to stay there for a long time, but one day a man asked me to be Captain of a big ship, the Adventure, and I left England again. We sailed from Portsmouth on 7th August, 1710. After some time, I had to stop in Barbados because a lot of sailors on the ship got ill and died. I looked for new men in Barbados so that I could leave again. Unfortunately, many of the new sailors were pirates and they soon took control of the ship. I was their prisoner for some months. Then, one day, they decided to leave me on an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I was alone again in a foreign place1. I sat down on the beach to think about what I could do. I decided to go and look for someone. I walked for a long time, then I saw some large fields with grass and oats2. After some time I saw tracks3 of human feet, tracks of cows and horses. Then I saw some animals in a field: they had strange bodies and some of them were sitting in trees. Their heads and their bodies were covered with hair, they had beards4 like goats5 but no tails. They climbed trees as quickly as squirrels6. One of them came running to me and tried to touch my face. I took out my sword and pushed it away. Then many of them appeared and surrounded7 me, and started shouting and making strange noises. I was frightened but suddenly they ran away. I was surprised but then, looking on my left, I saw a horse walking in the field.
