E X T E N S I O GULLIVER AT THE CINEMA Le Voyages de Gulliver à Lilliput et chez les géants (Gulliver s Travels Among the Lilliputians and the Giants) is the first film adaptation of Gulliver s Travels. It is a silent film, released in 1902 in France and 1903 in the US. It was directed by Georges Méliès. Gulliver Mickey is a black and white Mickey Mouse cartoon, produced by Walt Disney and released by United Artists in 1934. We find sequences of Gulliver s Travels and it ends with Mickey saving the town from a giant spider. The first successful film about Gulliver was an American Technicolor animated movie directed by Dave Fleischer and produced by Max Fleischer for Fleischer Studios. The film was released1 in 1939 by Paramount Pictures. It was a response to the success of Walt Disney s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs2. The story is based on the Lilliputian adventures of Gulliver. Paramount Pictures wanted Gulliver ready for Christmas.To meet this deadline3, the Fleischers had to employ4 lots of people. The next film with the same title was released in 1977, again in the US. It was directed by Peter R. Hunt.
