 During the mid-19th century in Transylvania, Professor Abronsius – a vampire hunter – and his young assistant Alfred try to rescue a young woman from Count Von Krolock, a vampire. He lives in a castle with other demoniac creatures. The reader is the narrative adaptation of Roman Polański’s comical movie, parody of the horror genre. The Fearless Vampire Killers is enriched with inserts about the world of vampires (Dracula in particular) and monsters between history and legend.

E X T E N S I O N DRACULA Count Dracula is the most important character1 of Bram Stoker s novel Dracula (1897). In 1890 the Irish author goes to Whitby in Yorkshire for a holiday. In that town he reads about the story of an old Rumanian prince2,Vlad III. Bram Stoker Whitby Abbey Vlad is a member3 of the Order of the Dragon (Dracul in Rumanian). He lives from about 1431 to 1477. He is famous because he is a very cruel person4. He puts a stick through his enemies 5 bodies. Then, he watches them until they die and has lunch in front of them! Stoker writes his novel after reading the shocking story 6 of Vlad III. Vlad III 1. character: a person in a film, play, or story. 2. prince: the son or grandson of a king or the queen. 3. member: a person that is part of a group. 4. cruel person: person that gives pain. 5. enemies: opposite of friends. 6. shocking story: story that causes surprise and horror. 24 

Count Dracula is a vampire and can do a lot of things: he is very strong, as strong as 20 men! He can change people into vampires when he bites them on their necks. He does not have a shadow7 and cannot see himself in a mirror8. Nobody can kill him and he can go up walls, like a lizard. He can change himself into a bat at night, so he can fly away from his castle. He has got control over animals, such as rats9, bats, owls and wolves. owl bat lizard wolf dragon But Dracula has got some weak10 points, too. He must always drink blood; if he does not drink it, he cannot live! He cannot look at the sun or the daylight. He cannot move if he sees garlic around him or religious objects, such as crucifixes or communion wafers11. If somebody puts a rose on the coffin where he sleeps, he cannot get out of it and you can kill him if you put a pointed stick into his heart! 9. rats: big mice. 10. weak: the opposite of strong. 7. shadow: 8. mirror: 11. wafer: 25
