REAL-LIFE SKILLS 4 Split up in groups. Each group creates a leaflet containing information about a wine tasting event. The text has to be concise, relevant and catchy in order to attract the reader’s attention. Use the checklist below. Wine tastings are events designed to give enthusiasts the opportunity to sample a range of wines. These events are usually located on a wine estate. – Best: 8-10 different wines for tasting – 2/3 white wines + 6/7 red wines (most people prefer reds, but a few diverse whites will make a well-rounded tasting) – When selecting specific wines, draw from important classic grape and region combinations Selecting the wines – Set a theme for your tasting (e.g. key grapes from around the world, Italy vs. France) – Consider making the event more mysterious (and perhaps competitive) with a blind-tasting format (e.g. place each wine bottle into a numbered paper bag and allow guests to try to determine the wine) The format of the tasting – Paired cheese, charcuterie, honey and chocolate tastings often complement wine selections well Food pairing considerations – About $50 per guest Recommended wine budget 5 Split up in groups of three. Each group chooses an italian region and prepares a presentation or infographic about its olive oil production. Here are some suggestions. Identify: the region and its location; the varieties cultivated; the amount of production; problems and improvements.
