L’argomento
 The Green Planet è rivolto in particolare agli studenti dei corsi a indirizzo Agrario, Agroalimentare, Agroindustria e per i Servizi per l’Agricoltura e lo Sviluppo rurale; più in generale, a coloro che hanno l’esigenza di utilizzare la lingua inglese come strumento di studio e/o di lavoro in questi settori.
 
 I contenuti sono ordinati secondo criteri di graduale complessità concettuale e linguistica e vengono esplorati utilizzando le quattro abilità in modo omogeneo e integrato. I brani offrono un assortimento di stili, registri e livelli di difficoltà.
 
 La struttura
 The Green Planet è diviso in sei Moduli, ognuno dei quali è ripartito in un numero variabile di Unità.
 
 Ogni Unità è suddivisa in brevi Capitoli su due pagine – teoria ed esercizi – per favorire uno studio più parcellizzato e la scelta antologica da parte dell’insegnante. Brevi link (curiosità, ampliamenti, rimandi, attività o mini-approfondimenti) arricchiscono i brani per consentire una maggiore interattività. Un ricco apparato iconografico correda i brani di lettura, per ognuno dei quali è previsto un esauriente glossario.
 
 Al termine di ogni Unità è presente la seguente sezione:
 
 Mapping your mind: Mappa riepilogativa.
 Alla fine dei primi sei Moduli, il testo propone ulteriori attività: <ul><li>Vocabulary: Esercizi di revisione e consolidamento;
</li><li>Real-life skills: Compiti di realtà e collaborativi, lavori di gruppo con un taglio di tipo pratico calato nella realtà;
</li><li>Case study: Argomento di attualità corredato di esercizi mirati all’approfondimento e alla discussione;
</li><li>Clip: Breve clip tratta da film o documentari attinenti agli argomenti del Modulo;
</li><li>Debate time: Spunti tratti da articoli giornalistici che stimolano riflessioni legate all’educazione civica secondo la tecnica del Debate.</li></ul>

CASE STUDY HONEY CARE AFRICA Honey Care Africa is a social enterprise founded in 2000 to raise incomes for the Kenyan poorest rural communities through sustainable apiculture as an alternative livelihood activity to poaching, timber-felling, and charcoal burning for many of the country s poorest rural communities.   Bee-keeping: an underdeveloped rural industry Traditionally, a rudimentary beekeeping in Kenya predominated in arid and semiarid regions of the country. Lacking modern hive equipment and specialised knowledge, apiculture throughout much of rural Kenya has always been based on the use of inef  cient log hives and smoke to harvest honeycomb. Honey Care Africa has been creating partnerships between local communities, development agencies, and the private sector. Farmers are given a micro-loan to purchase high-quality Langstroth beehives to replace the traditional ones, in exchange for the preservation of forest areas within which the hives are housed. Additionally, they are given intensive training in apiculture and are supported to develop autonomous honey production. The enterprise provides a guaranteed fair-trade market. Honey Care collects the honey on-site 8   Environmental, economic and social impacts Positive biodiversity impacts have been achieved through high levels of pollination and promoting the conservation of woodland areas for apiculture. Small-scale farmers are likely to see 15-30 percent growth in yield from other crops through increased pollination. Almost the half of the total bene  ciaries are women, who can increase their involvement and status in the community. Honey Care has been creating additional employment opportunities: this enterprise has also trained and integrated hundreds of workers.   An internationally-recognised success The model has been recognised within Kenya, regionally and internationally, as an example of a successful social enterprise, winning awards and funding from the World Bank and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
