L’argomento
 The Green Planet è rivolto in particolare agli studenti dei corsi a indirizzo Agrario, Agroalimentare, Agroindustria e per i Servizi per l’Agricoltura e lo Sviluppo rurale; più in generale, a coloro che hanno l’esigenza di utilizzare la lingua inglese come strumento di studio e/o di lavoro in questi settori.
 
 I contenuti sono ordinati secondo criteri di graduale complessità concettuale e linguistica e vengono esplorati utilizzando le quattro abilità in modo omogeneo e integrato. I brani offrono un assortimento di stili, registri e livelli di difficoltà.
 
 La struttura
 The Green Planet è diviso in sei Moduli, ognuno dei quali è ripartito in un numero variabile di Unità.
 
 Ogni Unità è suddivisa in brevi Capitoli su due pagine – teoria ed esercizi – per favorire uno studio più parcellizzato e la scelta antologica da parte dell’insegnante. Brevi link (curiosità, ampliamenti, rimandi, attività o mini-approfondimenti) arricchiscono i brani per consentire una maggiore interattività. Un ricco apparato iconografico correda i brani di lettura, per ognuno dei quali è previsto un esauriente glossario.
 
 Al termine di ogni Unità è presente la seguente sezione:
 
 Mapping your mind: Mappa riepilogativa.
 Alla fine dei primi sei Moduli, il testo propone ulteriori attività: <ul><li>Vocabulary: Esercizi di revisione e consolidamento;
</li><li>Real-life skills: Compiti di realtà e collaborativi, lavori di gruppo con un taglio di tipo pratico calato nella realtà;
</li><li>Case study: Argomento di attualità corredato di esercizi mirati all’approfondimento e alla discussione;
</li><li>Clip: Breve clip tratta da film o documentari attinenti agli argomenti del Modulo;
</li><li>Debate time: Spunti tratti da articoli giornalistici che stimolano riflessioni legate all’educazione civica secondo la tecnica del Debate.</li></ul>

DEBATE TIME 14 Read these newspaper articles and use them as food for thought for debating the following motions. 1. The new trends in insect farming endanger the Mediterranean food tradition. 2. CAFOs should be banned. Insects Could Help Increase Europe s Food Self-Suf  ciency but Will They Catch On? Industrial Farming is One of the Worst Crimes in History As the world population grows, it will be a challenge to meet everyone s nutritional needs with traditional sources of protein. Insects in products such as pasta or bread, microalgae, and single-cell proteins derived from wood could feed and nourish humans and animals in the future. Now, those exploring alternative proteins for more sustainable eating are working out how to make the switch to bugbased food a reality. While in Asian, African and Latin American countries, foraged insects are a regular part of the diets of about 2 billion people, in Europe, there exists a cultural barrier and the protection of culinary traditions. The fate of industrially farmed animals is one of the most pressing ethical questions of our time. Tens of billions of sentient beings, each with complex sensations and emotions, live and die on a production line. Animals are the main victims of history, and the treatment of domesticated animals in industrial farms is perhaps the worst crime in history. The march of human progress is scattered with dead animals. Even tens of thousands of years ago, our stone age ancestors were already responsible for a series of ecological disasters. When the   rst humans reached Australia about 45,000 years ago, they quickly drove to extinction 90% of its large animals. This was the   rst signi  cant impact that Homo sapiens had on the planet s ecosystem. It was not the last.
