Argomento e obiettivi del testo
 
 Life Stages è un corso di inglese specialistico per il settore dei Servizi per la sanità e l’assistenza sociale.
 
 I contenuti sono ordinati secondo criteri di graduale complessità concettuale e linguistica e vengono esplorati utilizzando le quattro abilità in modo omogeneo e integrato.
 I brani offrono un assortimento di stili, registri e livelli di difficoltà, e sono tratti da fonti diverse ed autentiche: libri e manuali, riviste e quotidiani online e siti web, anche specialistici.
 
 Il testo si propone di:
 
 <ul><li>far acquisire le competenze necessarie per comprendere testi che presentano termini, espressioni, strutture sintattiche e modalità discorsive specifiche del linguaggio settoriale;
</li><li>migliorare le capacità di ricezione e produzione orale e scritta, anche tramite attività tipo Preliminary, FCE e IELTS;
</li><li>consolidare abitudini grammaticali corrette;
</li><li>incoraggiare l'autonomia linguistica e la soluzione di problemi;
</li><li>stimolare l'interesse e la partecipazione attiva degli studenti, dando spazio alla loro esperienza personale e a problematiche di attualità.
</li></ul>La struttura
 Life Stages è diviso in sette Moduli, ognuno dei quali ripartito in un numero variabile di Unità.
 Ogni Unità è suddivisa in brevi Capitoli su due pagine – teoria ed esercizi – per favorire sia uno studio più parcellizzato, sia la scelta antologica da parte dell'insegnante.
 
 Brevi link (curiosità, ampliamenti, rimandi, attività o mini-approfondimenti) arricchiscono i brani per consentire una maggiore interattività. Un ricco apparato iconografico correda i brani di lettura, per ognuno dei quali è previsto un esauriente glossario.
 
 Ogni Unità si conclude con due sezioni:
 
 <ul><li>Vocabulary: con specifiche attività di revisione e consolidamento del lessico;
</li><li>Mapping your Mind: mappa riepilogativa per rappresentare la rete di relazioni tra i vari argomenti dell'unità.
</li></ul>Alla fine di ogni Modulo, il testo propone ulteriori attività:
 
 <ul><li>Key people: persone influenti nell'ambito dell'argomento trattato;
</li><li>Case study: analisi di un evento, un'organizzazione o un problema specifico;

Ruby has a passion for singing, a talent she discovers in her high school choir under the guidance of her music teacher, Mr Villalobos. He encourages her to audition for the prestigious Berklee College of Music, but her dreams clash with her family s dependence on her for communication and business matters. As Ruby s talent  ourishes, tensions rise at home. Leo pushes their parents to be more independent, while Ruby struggles with guilt about leaving them behind. When her family sneaks into one of her performances and experiences the emotional impact of her music in a silent yet profound way, they come to support her aspirations. In a heartfelt conclusion, Ruby departs for Berklee, signing  I love you  to her parents as she embarks on a new journey, finally embracing her own identity beyond her family s needs. Explain the reasons for this choice. 7 GROUP WORK Split up into two groups and discuss the following motion. One group must be in favour and the other against. Verbal communication is better than non-verbal communication. CODA VS LA FAMILLE B LIER CODA is the first Oscar winner specifically made as a remake of an existing film. In fact, CODA is based on the 2014 Franco-Belgian film La Famille B lier. It s almost exactly the same story as CODA, with some changes which don t affect the plot. The B lier family have a farm rather than a fishing boat. The deaf brother is younger rather than older than the protagonist. The music college is in Paris, not Boston. La Famille B lier is funnier than CODA and the music is said to be better. CODA won numerous awards, including all three nominations at the 94th Academy Awards   Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay, becoming the seventh Best Picture winner to win every award for which it was nominated. Instead, La Famille B lier received six nominations at the 40th C sar Awards, winning Most Promising Actress for Louane Emera. It won a Magritte Award in the category of Best Foreign Film. WORK 345
